In-Plant Training
"Applied Fundamentals of Plastic Extrusion"Understanding the plastic extrusion process is vital to making it work efficiently. The subtlties of the complex nature of conveying, melting, and metering plastic without being able to see the process requires that all involved have the most complete understanding of the governing fundamental principles. Our studied mature experience provides that understanding. Click on the icon for a brochure for complete information.

Heat Conduction in Extruder Screws
Virtually all screw and extruder analyses assume that the screw is adiabatic. However, this is impossible since the drive end of the screw is cold and the melt tip end is hot. Heat must, therefore, be transmitted axially from tip to drive. Under steady conditions, heat must enter at the hot tip end and leave at the cold drive end. An adiabatic screw is then a gross approximation. The attached short slide presentation illustrates how the screw can transmit heat under steady state, a condition called autogentic.Download the article.

Solids Angle Calculation
Calulate the solids angle from the flow or the flow from the solids angle for a single screw extruder.
The calculation assumes cylindrical coordinates, so the calculated angle will be higher that the same calculation based on an assumed rectangular coordinate system.
